After qualifying at both Regional and Global Rounds, Daniel, Joel and Julia have been invited to the World Scholar's Cup (WSC) 2017 Tournament of Champions which is to be held at Yale University from the 9-14 November. This is a world wide competition which tests knowledge across many subject areas against other teams. It places them in intense team debates, challenges their critical thinking and understanding of the competition theme, 'An Unlikely World', as well as creating opportunities to collaborate on essay writing. There are opportunities to learn from each other by watching Debate Showcases and participating in feedback sessions. Team and individual awards are presented where the strengths of each participant are recognised. It's a celebration of learning at its best!
There is also the element of fun, where the teams get a taste of each other's cultures through a Cultural Fair. They get to explore Yale and surrounds through a mixed team Scavenger Hunt. What an amazing opportunity to make connections with other Scholars from many different nations. Something many can only dream about.
The WSC has been a wonderful educational experience so far, broadening their horizons and world views. A trip to Yale will add to this experience where the skills they learn will stand them in good stead for a successful future in an ever changing world.
All competitors are required to pay for their flights, accommodation and entrance fee totaling at least R50,000.00 per student. This excludes financial assistance to the adults that will need to accompany them.
Any donations, no matter how small, would be appreciated. There are four spaces for corporate donors on the hoodies and shirts we will send with them.
