I will be visiting a Resala Orphanage in Cairo this Christmas and wish to support them with your help.

Resala was established in 1999 through a youth movement at Cairo University. It is powered by over 250,000 volunteers spanning 67 branches over Egypt to help orphans, the elderly, street children, the blind, deaf and those with disabilities

The activities that Resala carries out includes donating aid, food and clothing, illiteracy eradication, blood donations, computer and language education, human development, sending medical convoys to poor communities and addiction rehabilitation among many other projects.

Each Resala orphanage raises around 25 orphans, providing them with care and the possibility of being adopted. For the blind orphans, many books are being printed in Braille, recorded and read to the orphans by volunteers, which allows them to continue their education. The deaf and mute orphans are taught sign language and provided with art workshops and medical aids. Furthermore, Resala works hard to ensure the happiness of each orphan, organising trips and parties for them.

Why Egypt? According to Save the Children, 28% of Egyptians live in poverty. The pressures of making ends meet mean that children are often on the streets begging or working in dangerous jobs that jeopardize their health as well as their futures. According to UNICEF’s latest statistics orphans in Egypt are estimated at 1.7 million. Since 2014, refugees mainly from Syria and Yemen have been arriving in Egypt in increasing numbers, causing the number of orphan children on the streets to rise.

Please kindly donate in time for Christmas!
