My Friend Ricky Schafer of The Little Big Horse Farms, owns and manages his farm by himself.  In addition, he takes in any and all horses that have been abused or are about to be put down for various reasons.  He is a welder AND fabricator by trade, taking care of the horses in the morning, then working a full day welding at heights that would make most people's legs would buckle.  After work, again by himself, he takes care of the horses he has given a second chance.  He turns away no horse and to look at some of these beautiful animals and see the cruelty of what another human being can do is heatbreaking and would bring tears to your eyes.  Some, so malnurished it's amazing they can stand,I and others with gashes so deep you can put your fist inside.  He pays for their vet bills, their food and does things like irrigate wounds with a garden hose twice a day to help heal the wounds I spoke about above.  All with his own money. He turns no horse away despite the cost.  He also teaches his welding at night to help pay for the care the horses require.

Ricky is one of thse unsung heros that really could use some help.  I am in a wheelchair and he made me several pieces that would cost several hundred dollars, above my budget, and instead out of shear kindness, he did it free of charge.  He deserves both recognition and help with funding his farm.  Please do what you can to help him. He never complains, he loves his horses and as such he has devoted years that he could be out on the town meeting people, instead he dedicates his time, energy and hard work to horses in trouble.  HE IS A STAND-UP GUY and knows little of my plan to create an ongoing fundraiser to provide some assistance to him.  Please help with what you can!! Every dollar is a huge help!! Thank you, Garrett

Call Ricky at 302-382-7280 to come by and see the horses.

PS: An email Ricky sent me, regarding examples of the horses he takens onto his farm is below.

Tank, the big black horse has his hooves almost nonexistent. Because he was a competition pulling horse he had spiked shoes nailed to each hoof combined with his own manhood we'll call it puled temendous amounts of weight. When he was of no use anymore, they ripped his shoes off to keep, and sent him to the auction for slaughter. He stood in his own poop for a few weeks.. and his feet from standing in his own poop, in a pen barely large enough for his size, got seriously infected from the open wounds where the shoes were torn out.

Most of them are in line to go to slaughter.. Reo, our Paso Fino was abused he is scared of everyone but he is coming around..
