I work with youth as a volunteer in my religion for 10 years and I realised that a group of youth need more help in getting a better job in Singapore.

These youth are not able to attend the normal schools due to their results after PSLE (grade 6) and have to attend special (vocational) school to further their studies for the next 4 years. Depending on their results, they can continue their studies in ITE (technical school) where they learn a specialised school or they will join the workforce. These are good initiatives from the government but the youth that I know didn't manage to further their studies and in Singapore, it's difficult to get a job without a good certificate. They can only work at fast food, factory and usually on a part time basis.

Some of them work for part-time for years after graduate. Some due to their slower learning ability and not able to articulate well are bullied in work and develop a phobia and low esteem that they just stay at home. This means increased financial stress for their ageing parents and their parents' worries for their children's future.

I hope to bridge the gap for them to transit from a student and enter the work force successfully by providing a training venue for these students to work full-time and learn the necessary skills for a year in retail and they will be pay on par with the market rates during this period.

They will train to run the retail venue with minimal supervision and to learn hands on skills such as customer service, administrative, basic accounting and digital marketing, purchasing and inventory management and more importantly, manage the expectations of a job and learn to work together.

The funding will be used to rent and renovate a retail shop and purchase the supplies and provide training to these youth and help to get a job they desire after a year or even earlier. Also part of the shop will be showcasing and selling works from the special needs or disabled who are not able to work.

I hope that this enterprise will show them that they can still be successful, lead a purposeful life and contribute positively to their community. Thank you for your kind donation and please help to share!

A website or blog will be set up to detail and update the progress of the youth :)
