On the evening of December 5th, Tony started not feeling well. He went to Highland Park Hospital the next day and tested positive for COVID and was sent home. Wednesday the 8th, Tony started having difficulty breathing and Mindy called 911. He was taken by ambulance to HP hospital and then transferred to Glenbrook Hospital. For the next week, his illness progressed. By Saturday, he was placed on a ventilator. Tony fought for his life on a ventilator for 28 days. Due to the risks of being on a ventilator by mouth for so long, the doctors decided to perform trach surgery. Tony survived the surgery but his heart rate kept dropping and he needed assistance. On the morning of January 8th, the doctors noticed a change in Tony’s eye movement. Later, Mindy received a phone call that they were performing CPR and she rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, Tony was too sick and they were not able to revive him. Tony leaves behind Mindy and his two young children, Nicholas (6) and Alexis (5). This leaves Mindy to go from a dual income home to a single income home. Mindy’s goal for the future is to have as much stability as possible for her children and remain in their home in Highland Park. If you know Mindy, she is not one to ask for anything or complain. She is always positive with a smile on her face and the first one to ask how someone is doing. Mindy’s greatest concern is the stability of her children. Mindy knows that we are creating this but she was very reluctant to reach out and ask for help although she knows that she needs it. This money will help Mindy keep her home, let the children stay in their schools , and help pay for some medical costs that she will endure.
