Help the Helpless !

Why have I decided to establish Help the Helpless?

…….because I know the feeling of being helpless. I know what it feels like being helplessly caught in a situation and just hoping to survive. Hopelessness can occur in various scenarios of life. Five years of today I was in a situation where I would have done everything to escape and survive. At that time I promised myself, if I remain alive, I will become more humble towards life. No longer will I only take, but also give back. Now my time has come.

To witness how The European Union pushes the people whofled their homes and left everything behind, among its individual countries and borders, breaks my heart.

Berlin,1944. Inspired by the silent helpers, who helped 1700 German Jews hiding from the Nazis, I decided to help people who escape their countries, for a better life. We are by far not as brave and selflessly as those silent helpers were, so it makes it even easier for us to stand up and speak. We have to press our governments to open the borders and create that way safe path for refugees to pass, for not having to take the dangerous sea voyage.

We have to understand and internalize, that these people give up their old lives for coming to Europe. Ask yourself the question, how much would it need for you to leave everything behind and break with the past? You might not see your parents, children, brothers and sisters, beloved ones and friends ever again. Is this not inconceivably, just thethought itself?

Who are we to separate these people into economy immigrants and real refugees? What is a real refugee? These are human beings who were not so lucky to be born and raised in a first world country. Dictatorship, torture, murder, hunger and corruption is what they grew up with. All they want is their children to have enough to eat and a roof over their head. Why are we Europeans so afraid of sharing? Don't we have enough of everything? Too much? Is it fair for one part of the world to have everything in abundance, while the rest of it is starving? Can we not pop out of our nutshell and start step by step turning the world into a more humane place for everybody? Now we have a chance to do so. Let us not miss this opportunity. Today's refugees do need us, and although this is not clear to the European Union, we - our society – also will gain from this new cultural influx.

End of April two trucks will head down to the Macedonia border and support the refugees stopped at the border with clothes, shoes, baby-food, hygiene articles and toys. I will continuously post status updates here, so you can see, how far we are, where we stand and how much each single step costs. Lets be the voice for those who don't have one and show our politicians how much we disagree with them.
