WDPH: Help the Dumagats
Who are we?
Weekend Drive Philippines is a community of roadgeeks, road trippers, road travelers who share the passion of discovering new places and conquering roads less traveled.
The Dumagats
The Dumagats are group of indigenous people who lives in different parts of the Angat Watershed Forest reserve located in Norzagaray, Bulacan, Philippines. There are about 500 families and each family has at least 5 kids.
Why do they need your help?
Traveling to and from the communities is done by boat. Sometimes, especially typhoon season, travel can be impossible. This makes transport of goods like food, clothing, medicines a bit difficult. Their main livelihood is harvesting Yantok which sells for 4 - 20 pesos each. With the income each family earns from this livelihood, it's not enough sustain basic needs given the current price of basic goods and the extra to transport it. Since the typhoon and cold season is approaching, they would need supplies like canned goods when it's impossible to go out and hunt, clothing and blankets to help them survive the chilly weather, and medicine to help them make it through.
What do they need?
Emergency goods like canned goods, noodles, and rice, clothing, mats, blankets, medicines and flashlight.
How can we help?
By funding us through this campaign we can buy the goods that they need. We will then transport the goods for our planned outreach this coming December. We're targeting around 120 - 130 families but if we can raise more than our target, we'll help more families. If you have a car, you may want to join us and help us transport the goods to them.
