Campaign Story
Join Denis Goldberg in building the future of South Africa’s children and youths!
Who We Are:
A well-known anti-apartheid and human rights activist, Professor Denis Goldberg is one of two remaining defendants of the infamous Rivonia Trial, which led to the imprisonment of himself, Nelson Mandela and other prominent activists. In fact, his story will be featured in the upcoming Daniel Radcliffe film, Escape from Pretoria. He has dedicated and risked his life in the hopes of creating a fair, racially united South Africa, and to this day, the Denis Goldberg Legacy Foundation Trust has worked tirelessly to make those hopes a reality.
The Foundation’s primary mission is to establish an arts and cultural and education center, creating a house of hope, more specifically, the Denis Goldberg House of Hope. It is our goal to unite the various children and youths of South Africa through establishing a nurturing space for learning and the arts.
Our Campaign:
On the 13th of February 2020, we will be holding a charity performance in Hout Bay, South Africa, highlighting South African and international artists. However, such an event will require funds, including the costs for equipment, tents, artists and more. We have a rough estimate of 15,000 USD, and implore you to donate as much as you can.
The event will include the premieres of pieces of music and dance. Choreography will be done by the world-renowned Jessica Nupen, featuring myself and 2 South African dancer, in a dance symbolising the breaking down of barriers and racial divides. The acclaimed composer Mathijs van Dijk has created a score with South Africa’s unique cultural sounds and elements, and this will be premiered by youth members of the Miagi orchestra, along with celebrated musicians, violist Gareth Lubbe and cellist Trey Lee.
Our Hope:
The House of Hope plans on offering opportunities for children and youth in drawing, drama, making music, painting and writing, all unique and fundamental aspects of the arts, while also providing opportunities for young people to communicate in English, Afrikaans and IsiXhosa, the main languages of the Western Cape province of South Africa. We believe that in exposing children to both the similarities and differences in their cultures, they can create a South Africa that includes everyone.
Please, help us create a better future for the children of South Africa.
