Last Summer (July 2017) Dr Sotiris, Iliada and Monica joined the Antiparos-Punta Open Water Channel Swimming Race, a distance of 1450m from Punta in Paros to the Antiparos Port to raise funds for essential medical supplies for the Antiparos Medical Center. With your very generous support, we raised 4,500 euro!
The Antiparos Medical Centre is a vital service providing general and emergency health support for locals and tourists. Whether you have injured yourself in an accident or need support for an ongoing medical condition the doctors and support staff provide their expert diagnosis and treatment to thousands of tourists each Summer. Without this facility, many of us would be in a very difficult or impossible position during our stay on beautiful Antiparos.
The money raised in 2017, (4500 euro) helped purchase the following vital medical supplies needed to keep treating us.
- pediatric equipment (oxymeter,thermometers, manometers)
- surgical equipment (gloves, sutures, blades, forceps)
- strips, tapes and tissue glue (dermabond)
- orthopaedic equipment (slings, casts and narthexes, K-tapes)
- examiner's chair and saline stand
- adult blood pressure meters
- diagnostic equipment (strep A, urine, led lamp)
- light equipment
In conjunction with the Medical Centre, we have decided it is necessary to repeat our efforts this year. Proceeds will again go directly to the Medical Centre to enable it to keep us in good health!
Unfortunately, for technical reasons, the Antiparos-Punta Swim will not take place this year.
Instead, therefore, Iliada, Monica and Dr. Sotiris will swim from Agios Georgios, in the South of Antiparos, to the small island of Despotiko and back. This is a distance of around 1700 meters, slightly longer than last year's swim. We are delighted that this year we will also be joined by Eleni Mpali. The swim will take place on Sunday 15th July at 12.00 noon.*
We hope you will join our swim mentally, and support the cause by sponsoring as many of us as you like, as often as you like. Anyone who would like to assist is in helping to raise money, please get in touch with Iliada, Monica or Dr Sotiris directly.
Thanks again everyone for your amazing generosity.
* In the event of bad weather, the swim may be postponed for a few days.
