Miravalles I, is a project that seeks to build a CanSat Rocket Launcher. Miravalles I is part of TECSpace´s mission portfolio. TECSpace is a Costa Rican student organization that has the objectives of educating, promoting and doing research in the space engineering fields. Why Miravalles I?

Miravalles I, as stated before, is the project of a CanSat Rocket Launcher and it´s infraestructure. However, it´s scope and objectives are beyond this. Miravalles I is the project that will enable TECSpace and in bigger scale Costa Rica to really start delving actively in the rocketry field. Costa Rica, since 2018, has become a space-faring nation by the launch of the country´s first satellite. Miravalles I builds upon this by enabling not only essential technological developments but the potential to launch educational or commercial payloads that could empower multiple activities that may generate the future space engineering workforce.

Specifically, Miravalles - I mission objectives are listed below:

• Develop the infraestructure needed for high power rocket launches.
• Generate the capability of launching CanSat type payloads to 1 km altitude
• Encourage the comercialization of rocketry in Costa Rica.
• Create talent and human workforce for the development of rocket launch missions.

What does Miravalles - I consist of?

The mission includes the development of a 1.3-meter tall rocket and with a 13 cm diameter, equiped with the capability of carrying and deploying up to 2 kg of Payload in a 12 cm x 30 cm maximum dimensions. The rocket also includes a flight computer capable of driving vast amounts of actuators needed for even future missions. The rocket is powered by a KNDX fueled solid rocket motor capable of outputing a theoretical 1.3 kN average thrust, and a total impulse of above 2000 Ns. Making it a K classified rocket motor. The project also develops primary infraestructure such as a launch rail, advanced launch controller and all the equipment for telemetry reception from the rocket. Also the development of a more advanced future proof static testing bench for different rocket engines. All of the rocket subsystems will be reusable and the infraestructure will help in the development of future advanced missions.

How will the investment be spend?

Everything collected through this campaign will be exclusively used in materials, electronics and hardware needed for the project. TECSpace is a volunteer-driven organization, thus does not directly pay labor costs.
