Dear Fellow Malaysians,
We are writing to humbly request for your kind contribution to help us compete in the upcoming Asian Powerlifting Championships 2019, which will be held in Kazakhstan this December.

What is Asian Powerlifting Championships 2019?

The Asian Championship is a global celebration of competition and community, organised annually by the Asian Powerlifting Federation. It is a prestigious competition where the best lifters around Asia are given the opportunity to represent and bring glory to their nation. This year's event is historical as there will be more than 500 lifters from 22 countries competing.

Team Malaysia competed in the Asian Championships in 2018 and 2017, bagging many Gold medals and breaking several Asian records along the way. We would like to participate in this event again, but we will need to fully fund our own travel and living expenses.

Who are we?

Team Malaysia is represented by 6 athletes, who were chosen by the Malaysian Association of Powerlifting based on medal potential and meeting the qualifying criteria. They are:

  • Kenneth Kaden Chin (@kenneth_kaden)
  • Kelvin Yeoh (@kelvinyhp)
  • Liew Ashton (@liew_ashton)

Why support us?

We truly believe that Team Malaysia will be able to secure as many medals and even some athletes can potentially finish on the podium. As such, we do not want to let go of this opportunities to showcase our country's talent and potential. We have been consistently sharpening our skill-sets in our respective training facilities, and we'll be definitely ramping it up closer to the Championships.

We expect the team to fight for 10 medals, with at least 5 of them being Gold.
  • Kenneth Kaden Chin: 1 medal
  • Kelvin Yeoh: top 5
  • Liew Ashton: 1 medal

How much do we need?

Unfortunately, the entire budget in order for us to compete in Kazakhstan is extremely expensive. Below is the breakdown of the estimated amount of money needed to cover our stay there:

Item Cost per person (USD) Total cost for 3 athletes (USD)
Flight $860 $2580
Taxi (both airports) $70 $210
Accommodation (7 days) $315 $945
Participation + Doping Fees $150 $450
Foods $100 $300
Total $1495 $4485

*Regardless of the total amount raised, it will be apportioned to each athlete accordingly

Don't you have sponsors?

We have been working hard on getting sponsors to lend their kind assistance, but we will likely be unable to have our costs fully covered by sponsors alone. Hence, we have decided to launch this crowdfunding campaign to help cover the remaining expenses.

What happens if we still don't get enough funding?

We will carry forward the total amount to our next competition in the Southeast Asia (SEA) Cup 2020, or we might return the money to each individual who donated to us, or pass to other athletes who are still short of little bit of funds.

Any support would be hugely appreciated as your kind contribution (regardless of the amount) will definitely make this dream a reality.

Thank you very much. Malaysia Boleh!

Additional note: The Championship is sanctioned under the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), which is recognized by the General Assembly of International Sport Federations (GAISF) and via inclusion in the World Games, under the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
