12 years old silky terrier, Tamaw has a progressive heart condition and a collapse airway that causes fluid in her lungs, reduced oxygen intake and constant coughing and wheezing. She easily chokes on food and nearly suffocated to death once when she swallowed a solid kibble. She's permanently on medication twice daily, she can't go on long extended doggie walks and is refrained from eating solid food. She only has a few teeth left and and has bone spurs in her spine. Her medical condition is terminal and requires bi -monthly veterinarian visits, which has been costly.
A little bit about myself: Despite taking on the responsibility to care for a terminally ill senior dog, whose previous owners no longer want to care for her health and wellbeing, I am only currently a student, with very limited funds. I have previously been a foster care taker of stray rescued dogs and have adopted 2 of them myself. I'm also taking care of two stray alley cats who come around my home for food and shelter.
A little request: I usually don't ask for outside funding from total strangers, as I always believe that whatever happens, as long as you are honest and work hard, sometimes, things will work out and sort itself out and I'll find a way to sort out money issues. However, this past year has been a struggle and as a last resort, I've set up this crowdfunding page, in hopes of alleviating some of the financial burden.
I hope that you can find it in your heart, no matter how little the donation, to help me support the medical expenses of Tamaw, who is such a cute adorable girl. She's has had a difficult life before she came to me over a year ago. She used to be the apple of the eyes of a person who later moved out of her family home when she got married. She abandoned Tamaw with her parents and never came back for her or took care of her, thereafter. Her parents, who were not dog lovers, were not able to provide Tamaw with the love, care and attention that she required. She was regularly left out of the house for most part of the day, fed only once a day of rice, leftover boiled bones and beans and was only groomed every several months. She had never been to a vet for any check-ups before I took her in, was always seeking out love and attention and was extremely territorial.
As a result of neglect and abandonment, as she got older, Tamaw's health deteriorated due to malnutrition and she developed persistent behavioral issues. When she came to me, she had lost a lot of her hair and teeth, was infested with ticks and fleas, was underweight, was coughing and wheezing almost throughout the day and has cataracts. She has since gotten better under my care, with a full shiny soft coat of fur, has her own pet-bed and is fed regularly with quality soft kibbles. She also has new fur-friends as I have two other dogs living with me, another senior Silky Terrier and a rescued tripawd. She enjoys apples, chicken, cheese and crackers and loves basking in the sun, as shown in the video above. She's quirky, imaginative, smart and very resourceful when it comes to food, play-time and seeking out love and attention. She stretches like a ballerina, has heart of a lioness and eyes and ears so sharp she can hear you whisper her name in the next room. She's always following me around the house and is never far from my sight. I hope to care for her until her last days and give her as much love and comfort as I possibly can, for she deserved every bit of attention as any doggo in the world.
