My name is Damon Soo Yan Wei and I need your help and support in helping me realise my dreams to be Malaysia’s world champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ).
This August, I will be travelling to Las Vegas, USA to compete in the 2019 World Master IBJJF competition - one of the biggest and most prestigious competitions for BJJ. I will also be competing in the Pan Pacific International Open IBJJF in Melbourne Australia, which is also a big competition closer to this part of the world.
You can rest assured that I have been training hard and will continue to train hard to be fully prepared and give my absolute best in all competitions. I train, without fail, 2-4 times a day for 6 days a week with 1 rest day. I believe that I am one of the most diligent persons and this work ethic has made me the first ever Malaysian champion in the Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts competition in two weight divisions (Bantamweight 2016 and Featherweight 2018). I have also been winning BJJ competitions across South East Asia the past few years where I was champion for Dumau Saigon International 2019, Copa Da Malasia XI 2019 and IBJJF Manila International Open 2019 to name a few.
Some of you may ask why do I need the financial help? Well because being an athlete and a BJJ coach I don’t earn much and would never be able to afford the overall expenses on my own. Unfortunately I do not have any financial support from my family either. Your monetary support will be used for flight tickets, travelling expenses in the country, competition fees, accommodation, food, and fees to train in gyms before/after the competition.
The overall experience of competing and training in the other gyms will help me improve as a better competitor and a better coach. This would enhance my capabilities of helping others and spreading knowledge in the Malaysian BJJ scene.
Any amount contributed will go a long way or if you could help share this campaign that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you very much!
