Lovingly named, Kuchi Pie is a 7 years old rescued Silky Terrier, that later developed a rare case of an autoimmune disease (Discoid lupus erythematosus) that was triggered severely by a standard pet vaccination. Her aggressive immune system attacks her own skin cells, resulting in hyperpigmentation, extensive loss of hair follicles, extreme dryness, lesions and photosensitivity.
As a result of this disease, her hair loss is permenant, her skin is crusty, thin and fragile, and past wounds and lesions on her eye lids has led to her inability to completely close her eyes when she sleeps. Weighing only about 1.4kg, she is very small in size for a toy breed. She also has no teeth, has a slightly retracted lower jaw and has an old discernable scar on her cornea, which doctors suspect was a result of an injury in the past.
She had a costly skin biopsy performed (roughly USD300) in early April 2016 that finally led to an accurate and confirmed diagnosis of DLE and has had to make fortnightly to monthly visits to the vet eversince (averaging between USD50-60 each time), for close observation, prescriptions and constant medication dosage adjustments. She is currently on Prednisolone and Cyclosporin (on a long term basis), alongside a daily supplement of fish oil and eye drops to keep her eyes moist and clean. She needs oil massages on her skin 1-2 times daily (organic coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil) to keep her skin from drying out and flaking, and receives a warm water sponge bath once a week to remove excess buildup of skin flakes and crust.
Although she requires constant attention due to her medical condition, she is otherwise healthy and active. She loves milk, soft kibbles, cheese, scrambled eggs and crackers and is very quirky in her own derpy way. She loves to run alongside my 2 other dogs, one of which is also a rescued dog, a three legged dog named Ducky Boy. She loves barking with the boys and is always eager and excited to greet when I come home.
I hope you can find it in your hearts to help support Kuchi Pie's medical needs so that she may have a better quality of life. If you could meet her irl, you'd love her just as much as I do. She may be tiny and slightly disfigured, but she has a heart as big as any dog.
If you require any information about this fundraiser and/or about Kuchi Pie, please drop me a message through this website. All funds collected will go to paying for her past outstanding expenses on credit and subsequent ongoing medical bills. I'm currently residing in Malaysia and my bank account is a Malaysian one so Paypal will be the most convenient platform. However, if you would like bank details, don't hesitate to contact me too. I'll be happy to provide them.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Kuchi Pie and her story. She means a great to me. Your help, generosity and graciousness is very greatly appreciated.
