World Challenge has been running educational expeditions since 1987. We run our expeditions in the ethos of Challenge, Participation and Environment, to help open the minds and broaden the experience of young people.
Our teams consist of student participants (which we call Challengers), along with an Expedition leader, a School leader and possibly an Expedition Assistant depending on team size.
My expedition will take place in Southern Peru, and start in the beginning of June, and lasts 21 days. I will need to raise all the money by the end of April, before the last instalment is due.
During my 21 day expedition there will be Project Phase. In this project phase my group and I will be doing community based work such as building or renovating an orphanage, teaching English to local children, or working on environmental-awareness programmes. . It is a truly unique opportunity for us to immerse and embed ourselves within a local culture and community. The more proactive our team is, the more they gain from the experience.
I will extract as much learning from the expedition as possible. Such as learning new skills, but also becoming more aware about the impact of my action/s on others during the project phase. It will be very important to work collaboratively with others and apply new skills in difficult situations especially when helping the people who live less privileged lives. We will help teach orphans english as well as entertaining them, and improving their buildings and so on. Lastly, we will also give them money to the buy school materials and so on.
To be able to help the less privileged in Peru I will need to raise money. I will be organising things on my own in my school, such as having an Arts and Crafts Stand at our school's Winterfest, or a teacher's lunch, or a waffle stand after school for the primary schoolers. However to assure that I raise enough money in the limited amount of time, it would be very helpful if people could donate to the less fortunate in Peru which I will help.
