Hi there, my name is Jacques, and I have a big heart for seeing a difference in our young people's lives as well as knowing they are safe, in a week and a half I will be heading to Umhlanga to volunteer at Matric Rage.

"What is Matric Rage and what will you do there?" I am glad you asked (Sorry just had to do this :P).

Matric Rage (like Spring Break in America) in Umhlanga is a post-school celebration like none other. Umhlanga Matric Rage (Spring Break) runs over an 8-night period parallel to the dates of the "Rage Festival" and many of the Matrics (School Leavers) that stay and party in Umhlanga are from other provinces. Umhlanga Matric Rage is one of South Africa’s largest Matric holiday destinations with thousands of students descending on the hotels, clubs and beaches. We will operate alongside the Umhlanga Improvement Precinct (UIP) and as such provide incredible support for Matrics, accommodation managers and other community members.

Not only do thousands of Matrics (School Leavers) descend on Umhlanga but a bunch of legendary Volunteers are there to provide a positive presence. Where I will be one of them!

In Umhlanga, we are all about supporting a generation of school leavers during what can be an enjoyable, yet at times, physically and emotionally confronting week. We will help accommodation providers with assistance in looking after the Matrics in hotels as well as assist the community by being a positive and calming presence.

We recognize that the culture of young people is dominated by alcohol and that excessive consumption of alcohol and other substances can lead to dangerous and life altering behaviours. Therefore, we make it our mission to provide a positive peer presence in alcohol-fuelled environments where young people gather, educate young people on safe partying behaviours, and promote and provide non-alcoholic and/or diversionary activities that engage young people in these environments.

We will be doing things from cooking and giving free pancakes to walking kids home in the early hours of the morning.

And I would like to offer you a chance to partner with us during this time, by giving a donation towards this cause. No donation is too small or too big, and if more money is raised then I need for this, it will be donated to the organization I am working with during this time. I do however only need 200 USD, but the fundraising platform has a minimum of 250 USD for a fundraiser.

Please don't feel obligated to give, but I would appreciate it if you can make a small donation.

Thank you in advance already for helping to make a difference!

Jacques
