Pierre and Yolanda Wilkinson , stranded in Laos, simply want to return home alive.
Pierre and Yolanda embarked on their first international flight on March 10th. They planned and budgeted on a dream holiday which quickly turned into an unimaginable nightmare.
Pierre, a 48 year old police Captain in Port Elizabeth, said his only focus is being able to get his wife home alive. They have made countless attempts and spent hefty sums of money in hope or being repatriated back to South Africa.
Yolanda, a 51 year old who works in HR, suffers from severe depression which has led to multiple suicide attempts whilst the nightmare has developed. Her health has deteriorated rapidly due to anxiety and has a underlying severe heart condition. Her husband is starting to believe he will return home with her in a body bag.
Both Pierre and Yolanda have children waiting for them at home with their Youngest daughter turning 21 tomorrow.
They have spent over R 500,000 in costs, maxed out both credit cards and have been forced to ask for donations from friends and family back home.
They have to renew their visas every few weeks and are stuck in Laos as the Thai-Laos border is closed due to Covid-19 restrictions.
They have reached a point where the only concern is getting home alive.
The last resort, a R 300,000 hospital bill to prove the severity of Yolanda's condition for evacuation, has left them sharing 1 bowl of noodles as their daily meal.
They have recently had an article published in The Herald (https://www.pressreader.com/south-africa/the-herald-south-africa/20200603/281629602491692) which will raise awareness , but not necessarily a response.

Any donations would be immensely appreciated, not only to assist them paying debts, feeding themselves as well as assisting in returning them home safely, but to let them know the love and support they are inevitably doubting in Laos.
Simply sharing this issue and continuing to create a wave of awareness will hopefully cause a reaction from those in power to arrange that Pierre and Yolanda finally be brought back home.
