Asaba Gerald is four years and stays with his grandmother (50years)and three brothers 7,8 and 9 years. Their father and mother passed away two years ago after being sick for seven years. During the sickness over 10 acres of land and the house they lived in were sold off to treat their parents. They then came to live with their grandmother who has less than one acre of land. They depend on growing maize, beans and tomatoes to get food and income but do not reap anything. The land is small and is not productive. They cant buy agricultural inputs since they do not have money. They provide labour to buy food which is not always enough. They stopped going to school so that they move around in the village to provide cheap labour and get food. The photograph was taken from in front of their house that they now live in. The grand mother is always digging in their one acre to produce food for the family though the land is production. Over 500 children are in such a situation in the district. This fund raising aims at raising funds to buy improved agricultural inputs that are drought resistant to give orphans and their care givers to grow crops. This will help orphans access education, scholastic materials, improve nutrition and income to 500 orphans and their care givers in remote western Uganda. The project will provide scholastic materials, pay school fees, give out beans and maize seeds for planting plus chicken to 500 orphans and vulnerable children aged 6-12 years.
