Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my GoGetFunding page.
My name is Jasmine Tailor. I am a 19 year-old student who will be commencing Medical School in 2015. However, before beginning my path through University and further through my career, I have decided to take a gap year, in the hope of fulfilling my passion of helping the under-privileged.
I will be embarking on a trip to Sri Lanka with an organization called Plan My Gap Year. The purpose of my trip is to provide help, to the large population of under-privileged people in Sri Lanka. During my trip I will have the opportunity to:
- Teach English at a local schools and temples
- Embark on medical work experience
- Volunteer at a local orphanage
The inspiration for my trip comes from my desire to help people who cannot help them selves.
Poverty is something that has no place in a modern society, however the harsh reality is that even as we approach 2015, 80% of humanity still lives on less then $10 a day.
Being lucky enough to live in a place where sanitation, literacy and health care are taken for granted, I feel it is important to use this opportunity to build a foundation for which the local community can build upon.
This trip will allow me to be on the front line in delivering help to the people whom are most in need.
I choose Sri-Lanka as the hardships this small island have suffered in recent years have been particularly devastating, with 35,000 people loosing their life's as a result of the tsunami in 2004.
This resulted in widespread disease and under-developed communities.
There is a large cry that must be answered.
I am looking for donations, to fund my trip to Sri-Lanka.
Thank you all for your support and helping me make this dream a reality. x
