Help Sinisa reunite with his family after Petrinja earthquake

Just between last Christmas and New Year 2021, in the middle of the second wave of the Covid 19 pandemic, the Croatian region of Banovina was struck by another unexpected natural disaster.

A strong 6.4 magnitude earthquake strongly hit the region, causing mass destruction of private proprieties and lives and adding discomfort to the already complicated psychological and economic situation.

Even before the earthquake, Banovina, once one of the most prosperous Croatian regions, was left economically stagnant due to a combination of bad management and wrong politics that only led to depopulation.

Many people felt that moving to other regions was the only solution.

Despite that, some people decided to try to go against the current. With a big dream in their hearts, they decided to repopulate this land. A dream, consisting of hard work and a big happy family life surrounded by nature, far from the big city. My friend Siniša is one of those people.

A house with a barn, surrounded by green pastures, was all he and his family needed for a fresh start. They found a perfect one on the outskirts of Petrinja and invested everything they had to start a new life.

Not without difficulties, with a lot of work and sacrifices, things were slightly heading in the right direction.

On the 29.12.2020. at 12:20, a terrible earthquake has changed that forever.

Siniša's house is now badly damaged as you can see in the pictures. It is not safe to live there any longer and needs to be demolished soon. The barn is also damaged and needs fixing as soon as possible. The animals (a flock of sheep and 4 dogs) find shelter in an improvised greenhouse at night as you can also see in the pics. Despite the danger and low winter temperatures, Siniša decided to stay at the property as he can not abandon his animals. While he appreciates the donated camper (see pictures), his temporary living conditions are far from decent. He has no toilet and no heating at all. Despite all this, he would never leave his animals. His family is relying on them and their milk for their living.

Siniša hasn't received any help yet. His house is far from the city and people that used to buy his milk are coming less due to the pandemic. The only offer he got until now is to sell his sheep for one-tenth of their real value, an offer that he could turn off at least for now.

Fortunately, his wife Silvija and their 3 children (two elementary school-aged girls and a boy) had an opportunity to stay at their friends' house.

The goal of this campaign is to bring this family back together by providing them with a container house or a prefabricated wooden house with a toilet as separation should never happen between family members. The kids are scared for and worried about their father, therefore we sincerely hope to reunite this family as soon as we can.

The estimated budget for a small, basic container house is around 15000euros, which includes transportation costs.

if the donation exceeds this value the extra money will be used to provide the family with a more complete solution.

Tra Natale e Capodanno, nel bel mezzo della seconda ondata della pandemia da Covid-19, la regione croata di Banovina è stata vittima di un’altra catastrofe naturale.

Un forte terremoto di magnitudo 6.4 ha colpito fortemente questa regione provocando la distruzione di moltissime case e aggiungendo ulteriore disagio alla già complicata situazione psicologica ed economica della gente.

Già prima del terremoto l’economia della Banovina, un tempo una delle regioni croate più prospere, fu stagnante per anni a causa della cattiva gestione e politiche sbagliate che portò allo spopolamento.

Nonostante ciò, alcune persone decisero di andare controcorrente e, con un grande sogno nel cuore, ripopolarono questa terra. Un sogno fatto di duro lavoro e di una vita immersa nella natura, lontano dalle grandi città. Uno di questi è il mio amico Siniša.

Una casa con stalla circondata da pascoli era tutto ciò di cui lui e la sua famiglia avevano bisogno per un nuovo inizio. Trovarono ciò che cercavano poco fuori da Petrinja e investirono tutto ciò che avevano in quella proprietà. Affrontarono non poche difficoltà, ma con tanto lavoro e sacrifici, le cose stavano iniziando ad andare per il verso giusto. Il 29.12.2020. un terribile terremoto cambiò per sempre le loro vite.

La casa di Siniša è stata distrutta e deve essere demolita. Anche la stalla ha subito grossi danni e deve essere riparata il prima possibile. Per ora gli animali (un gregge di pecore e 4 cani) trovano riparo la notte sotto una "serra" improvvisata. L’attuale situazione è quella che potete vedere nelle foto.

Nonostante il pericolo e le basse temperature invernali, Siniša ha deciso di rimanere lì per non abbandonare gli animali. Siniša dorme in una piccola e vecchia roulotte senza riscaldamento e senza servizi igienici. Le condizioni di vita sono tutt’altro che decenti, ma non può permettersi di lasciare i suoi animali che, fino a poco tempo, con il loro latte mantenevano tutta la famiglia. Da quando c’è stato il terremoto purtroppo anche il commercio si è fermato e non è ancora ripartito.

Dopo quasi 2 mesi Siniša non ha ricevuto ancora nessun tipo di aiuto concreto da parte delle istituzioni. La sua abitazione si trova lontano dalla città e le persone che compravano il suo latte non arrivano più a causa della pandemia e della situazione disastrata di questi luoghi. L’unica offerta che ha ricevuto è stata quella di vendere il suo gregge per un decimo del suo valore reale, ma nessuna offerta o aiuto per far ripartire la sua attività.

Per fortuna almeno sua moglie Silvija e i loro 3 figli hanno trovato ospitalità a casa degli amici a Zagabria.

L'obiettivo di questa campagna è riunire la famiglia, fornendo loro una casa container o una casa prefabbricata con servizi igienici dove poter abitare tutti quanti insieme. I bambini sono molto preoccupati per il loro papà e non vedono l’ora di raggiungerlo a casa. La nostra speranza è di riuscire ad aiutare questa famiglia affinché tornino a vivere tutti insieme il prima possibile.

Il budget stimato per una piccola casa container con bagno è di 15.000 euro, inclusi i costi di trasporto.

Qualora le donazioni ricevute dovessero superare questo budget, il denaro verrà utilizzato per iniziare a costruire una nuova casa stabile per la famiglia.
