Hello Everyone! I humbly ask for your help for my upcoming Brachial Plexus Surgery possibly this March 2017 if my parents are able to raise the funds I need.
I’m 20 years old and about to graduate from my course Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation this coming March 2017, but everything changes in a blink of an eye when that motor vehicular accident last December 23, 2016 left my head with blood clots and bruises in my brain and my left arm paralyzed. The incident was life-changing, my boyhood dreams of seeing the world free is gone, and what’s left is a broken ego and shattered dreams.
When I regained consciousness 15 days later, I thought the incident was just a dream, but as days gone by, I come to realize that this is not a dream but a nightmare that happened in reality. Since then, I’ve been haunted by that mistake I committed, a mistake that could never be undone for the rest of my life.
After 15 days of stay at the hospital, my doctor referred me to a physician in Cebu City to undergo further management and checkup. I’ve been in tests (CT scan twice, X-rays, Magnetic Resonace Imaging(MRI), Electromyography(EMG) and blood works). Because of the nature of the injury, the doctor in Cebu City told me that there is nobody in Cebu City that he knows that has the highly specialized skills to handle my situation and he also informed us that if ever there will be surgery then we should expect that it will be very expensive since it will involve microsurgery.
My parents and sisters are very determined to find a doctor for me hoping that my arm can still be saved, so they searched the internet for more information and have high hopes of finding a doctor for me and they were able to find few of them in Manila City. So we again flew to Manila and visited the doctor they found for consultation. Based on test results, it was then confirmed that I have Brachial Plexus Injury and the sad part is that it’s the most severe case which is Avulsion of the nerves (the nerve root has been torn from the spinal cord.)
I was advised by my doctor to undergo brachial plexus surgery, a surgery that will not be able to restore the previous state of my left arm but just to have the possibility of achieving elbow flexion, shoulder stability with limited abduction and the hope of limited but potentially useful hand function. The doctor told me to undergo this procedure as soon as possible or within 3 months ( the earlier the better). The procedure is very expensive and due to the daily expenses incurred during hospitalization, checkups and travel expenses, my parents resources are exhausted. Debts have piled and though my parents don’t want to let me feel what they’re going through financially, I know very well that they’ve been letting both ends met and are in serious debts.
I know that they don't have enough funds to compensate for this operation so I humbly ask for your support so that I may have a chance to live a near normal life. The doctor said that I have a very good chance of recovering because of my age and my very positive outlook in life, so I’m looking forward to have the surgery done as soon as possible per doctors advised. I'd like to pursue my dreams and get a job soon. I would still like to continue going to school in a different field now since my present course will not be applicable any more.
I hope you will find in your heart the kindness to extend your help and support for me.
Thank you so much and God bless!
