Help Send Theresa to Tanzania, Africa!

Hello everyone,

This summer (2014) I will be embarking on an incredible once in a lifetime journey, for 7 weeks to Tanzania, along with about 15 other students from the University of British Columbia’s Go Global Cultures and Communication Program. We will be living and working in Nguruma Village, which is an agricultural community of about 4000. We will be partnering up with The Vijiji Foundation, a local non-profit organization to learn about the principles and practices of Community Based Research, as well as working alongside community members to develop and implement a variety of sustainable VolunTourism programs in bio-intensive agriculture and the environment, education and English-language literacy, and sustainable community development. Our days will be a mixture of classroom and “hands-on” experience, with the majority of the time spent working directly with the local Meru people. Following the 6 week program, we have the option to stay an additional week for a wildlife and culture safari to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge and the villages of the Datoga, Iraqw and Hadza of the Lake Eyasi region.

This is such an incredible hands-on approach to learning, and I am so looking forward to it! My time in Tanzania will count as 2 courses that will go towards my Bachelor of Arts, Major in Geography and Minor in Anthropology from UBC. I am funding money for the program itself, UBC tuition, flights, visa, and vaccinations. Donations of ANY amount will be a huge help. So Please donate and help send me to Africa!
