Hello all! I am Tenisha and I am currently a junior enrolled at Kennesaw State University, majoring in International Affairs with a concentration in French. This summer I have a chance of a lifetime to study abroad for two weeks in the beautiful french speaking country known as Benin – which is conveniently placed between Togo and Nigeria. I have previously studied abroad in London for two months, and ever since I have been interested in going abroad again. London was a great experience, but I feel as though Benin would allow me to make an impact on this world and solidify myself as an International Affairs major. Not only will I be receiving academic credits for this trip, but I will be doing volunteer work. At my respective institution there is an educational non-profit organization known as "Seeds of Knowledge (SOW)". This organization allows students across Georgia to create books that will later be used to teach rural school children in Africa, specifically in Benin, how to read. I have created my own book in the past with the SOW organization, and now I have been awarded the opportunity to lay down a sturdy foundation for the children of Benin, as well as enhancing my French conversational speaking technique.
"So how much does this fortuitous occasion cost?". Well the entire program costs $3,875.00, and it is actually one of the more affordable programs at my institution. Especially if one considers the fact that a trip to Africa ,outside of studying abroad, can be well over four thousand dollars. The cost covers my airfare, lodging, meals, program fees and insurance. However, it does not cover tuition, emergency funds, cost of immunizations, travel expenses and textbooks. This is where I need the assistance. I have to make two separate payments of $1,787.50, one on March 1st and one on March 15th. I have enough money saved to cover the first payment, and a little less than half for the second payment. A donation of any amount will be more than helpful. I have requested a $2,000 goal because $1,500 will cover the remaining expenses. Any additional donations will be donated to Seeds of Knowledge.
Thank you for taking the time out to read my lengthy explanation. I can't stress enough that every cent counts, and anything that is donated will be used to improve the life of another.
