Help send Poornima to China!

Hey!

I'm a software professional who quit her job recently. I taught English to students in a slum in Chennai, India every weekend for about a year and the experience changed my life and continued to prick my conscience until I decided to make a serious effort to make a difference on a larger scale!

I have now been accepted into a year-long volunteering programme with WorldTeach, a reputed, non-profit organisation that places volunteers in developing countries. In August, I will leave to Hunan, China where I will teach English to students in an under-staffed seconday or vocational school. Although China is one of the world's largest growing economies, there is a serious dearth of quality english teachers in the country, especially in schools in the interior, rural areas. 

However, the cost of volunteering on an international scale is rather overwhelming! I will need to cough up around 5000$ to pay my airfare, training and support, insurance etc! I am trying to raise at least half the amount through fundraising programmes and websites.
