My education means the world to me!
Please help me achieve my dream!
My name is Kamilah. I live in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, a twin island country located in the Caribbean, just off the coast of northeastern Venezuela. It is the third richest country in the Americas due to its industrial economy with its emphasis on petroleum and petrochemicals. Yet, despite its healthy economy, there is an unequal distribution of wealth, and more than 20% of Trinidad’s and Tobago’s population live below the poverty line.11% are undernourished.
If you are wealthy in Trinidad and Tobago – life is good. If you are not wealthy, life is very difficult. Unfortunately, I am not among the wealthy.
However, I have been blessed with an inquisitive mind, a gift for scholastics and an eagerness to help people. My teachers have encouraged me to continue my education, and their faith in me has inspired me to launch this campaign so that I can make plans to attend Howard University in the District of Columbia, USA. Without your help, the currency exchange rate makes it impossible for me to afford the tuition payments.
Unfortunately, there are few university opportunities in my homeland to match my interests. My goal is to study Biology and Chemistry so that I can work towards a career in medical research.
I have a deep interest in scientific exploration and a desire to break new ground in the medical field. Research has led to some wonderful discoveries that have improved people’s longevity – vaccines for measles and polio, insulin treatment for diabetes, classes of antibiotics for treating a host of maladies, medication for high blood pressure, improved treatments for AIDS, statins and other treatments for atherosclerosis, new surgical techniques such as microsurgery, and increasingly successful treatments for cancer. But many challenges remain, however, including the appearance of antibiotic resistance and the obesity epidemic.
In my country, I have seen too many men, women and children suffering from diseases that still need to be resolved, including Cardiovascular Disease, Malignant Neoplasm, Diabetes, Cerebrovascular Disease, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, HIV, Dengue Fever, and Yellow Fever.
With the right education, I can make a major contribution to the health of my homeland – and with your help, I will have access to that education.
Your donation will be well spent. It will go specifically toward tuition costs and absolutely nothing else! I will also look for work in the US and apply for educational loans and grants. In addition, I plan to send monthly e-newsletters to my donors so that they can track my progress and celebrate my educational success. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
