I am Kyla Andrey, a 19-year-old college student in the Philippines. Recently, I have been selected among thousands of applicants to be one of the delegates in the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR), one of the largest annual conferences in Asia, hosted by Harvard University. HPAIR brings together 300 student leaders and young professionals around the globe to discuss about the pressing social, political, economic, and cultural issues and to take part in solving these problems one step at a time. This year’s Asia Conference will be held on August 15-20, 2019, at the Nazarbayev University, Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
As an advocate of youth empowerment, to be chosen as one of the participants in this event is a dream come true. I believe that the learnings and insights that I will gain in this experience––specifically with my chosen track, Social Policy and Justice wherein issues on Modern Slavery in Southeast Asia and Mental Health in the Asia Pacific will be discussed––will be essential in fighting for our rights and beliefs as youth of this era, and in rising up amidst the challenges we face nowadays. This will be a very great opportunity to learn and to represent the youth, and our country, and an avenue to share the values and ideologies I have learned and treasured in my journey, so far, as a student, a leader, and a Filipino. This will also be a chance to meet various people with different perspectives, who are committed to life-long learning and nation-building, and to further gain more knowledge that would help me grow not just as a leader, but as a person. Most of all, this would help me become not just a successful, professional accountant in the future, but a catalyst of change and a better citizen of our country, the Philippines. Hence, this will not only be beneficial on my part, but also to the future of our community, our country, and of the world at large.
HPAIR, however, is a student-led organization, and could not provide all the delegates enough financial support. In line with this, I am kindly and humbly requesting for your support of any amount to help me attend the aforementioned event. Listed below is the breakdown of potential expenses:
Airfare: 1,010 USD (PhP 52,532)
Internal Travel Expenses: 20 USD (PhP 1,041)
Food and Lodging: 382 USD (PhP 19,875)
Conference Fee: 475 USD (PhP 24,714)
Other Expenses: 15 USD (PhP 780)
TOTAL EXPENSES IN US DOLLARS: 1,902 USD
TOTAL EXPENSES IN PHILIPPINE PESO: PhP 98,960
The amount is really expensive and our family do not have enough funds to pay for the whole amount. Despite this, I am still hopeful that you can help me raise funds to attend this huge event that could change my life forever. I have been dreaming of a better country, and of a better world. All I need is a chance to turn this dream into reality.
Thank you very much and have a nice day!
