Askia, whose name has been changed for confidentiality, is an African refugee living in Hong Kong. He is in his early 20s and has been waiting a few years for his application for asylum to be processed by the Hong Kong government. He is still waiting.
Smart, articulate and driven, Askia desperately wants to get an education and make a difference in this world. He loves law and journalism, and he dreams of a career using both.
Askia has been admitted to a university degree program in Hong Kong with a scholarship. But although the scholarship covers tuition and housing, there is not enough left over to cover the expenses of being a university student in one of the most expensive cities in the world. And as a refugee, he is not legally allowed to work, so the only way to raise money is through donations.
I work at the university where Askia was accepted and can confirm that he has been offered a place and a scholarship.
Any donation will help change Askia’s life.
