Thousands of residents enjoy cycling, walking, birding, and picnicking in the spectacular Baakens Valley reserve in Port Elizabeth every month.
The ‘green lung’ is one of the City’s most prized areas of natural heritage.
However, with current pressures on our economy, PE residents are concerned about an increase in crime which is affecting certain areas in the valley.
FatTracks Mountain Bike Club has identified a potential area of vulnerability which offers criminals easy access and escape routes.
Security cameras needed
The MTB Club is appealing to Port Elizabeth residents to help crowdfund the setup of security cameras at this point of vulnerability to help make the Valley more secure for all who use and enjoy it, including those who traverse its paths when moving to and from work.
- Atlas security and Intersec Access have come on board with a reduced rate to set up the cameras for a cost of R45,000.
- Pam Golding properties have further committed to the monthly monitoring fee of R,1000 and put a sum of money forward to start the funding drive.
Your contributions MATTER. Help us keep the Valley a safe, enjoyable outdoor space for all.

Rian Du Toit and Peter Allanson love the valley rides and it is a special part of Port Elizabeth that needs to be kept safe and maintained. Good luck with the remaining funds needed to make this happen.
