My name is Patrick Razo, and I'm from the Philippines!

Early last year, I applied for the Japanese government's MEXT scholarship, which lets foreign students study in a Japanese university, free of charge and with a monthly stipend. It's a very competitive process and I honestly didn't expect to get in, but last December 28 I got an email telling me that they chose me and that I can start at the Yokohama National University on April 2019!

Unfortunately, the email also said, "As the first installment of the scholarship payment will be made from one month to one and a half months after the grantee’s arrival in Japan, the grantee is recommended to bring at least approximately US$2,000 with him/her to Japan to cover immediate living expenses and other necessary expenses."

US$2,000 is a lot of money, and between my parents' medical bills and other family expenses, I don't think I can get that kind of money together. I can maybe save up half of that in the next three months, but I don't know where I can get the rest.

This is an amazing opportunity for me, and I would love to study abroad. I think this is the perfect chance for me to turn my family's life around and be someone my parents could be really proud of.

Whatever you can give would be a big help, and would be much appreciated. Thank you so much!
