Help save the Old n New bed and breakfast

Hello to all our “Old and New” friends and extended family.

Its Candice from the Old n New bed and breakfast and I am humbly asking for your help to save the bed and breakfast. When I was young my dream was to become a jockey and I was to go overseas to join the academy when I finished school. My mom and dad semi-retired to Umhlanga and we started the bed and breakfast and they put everything they had into starting the business for my brother and I. I fell in love with the business and at the same time was doing my schooling and finished my matric at the end of last year. In January this year I put my heart and soul into the business but in March we were informed of the COVID-19 pandemic which was affecting everyone across the world. Immediately after the first case was announced our guests all started cancelling including all our overseas guests and we’ve had no guests since the beginning of March. I have tried all my options available to me, however being in the tourism industry none of the banks and financial houses want to assist me as nobody knows when the tourism industry will be opening up in South Africa. Although tourism is the second biggest industry in South Africa, due to the fact that there is a lengthy lockdown on this industry many of the financial houses, banks and government have invested millions into the businesses that can currently trade to try and boost the economy.

The Old n New bed and breakfast has been trading for a few years and in that time I’ve been fortunate enough to meet so many wonderful people from all over the world. Many of my guests have become a big part of my family and friends. We have our wonderful regular holiday makers, business guests, and still have all those wonderful memories of those large groups of people sharing their weddings, anniversaries, farewells, birthdays, engagements, births, baby showers, matric vacations, and I can’t forget those annual events such as the Vodacom Durban July and comrades marathon. Then there’s all those celebrations that we share in with owners, trainers and jockeys as we see their horses win. I want so badly to keep this business going so that we can welcome you all back once again, and make new friends, family and memories. but without income, I still need to pay my monthly contracted expenses such as rates, lights and water, DSTV, WiFi, commissions and staff salary. As all of you know it takes approximately 3 years to get a business up and running properly and I was just reaching that peak when everything went wrong. I know that everyone is struggling out there but if there is any of you that can please find it in your hearts to help me save this business for my brother Sheldon and I, we would be forever grateful to you.

Oh, by the way, to all of you that know and love “Charlie” he is sitting here meowing at me, he misses you all and all his “little snacks” that you all spoil him with.
