The MV Custos is a research vessel build in Durban South Africa in 1964 originally owned by the South Atlantic Islands Development Corp before she was sold to the South African Government as a fishing support vessel. Where after in 2000 it was bought by a private owner and she left the beautiful coastlines of Cape Town, South Africa for Angoche Island, Mozambique. Where she remained stationary as a prawn processing vessel for the next 12 years. From 2013 the MV Custos has just been laying there where the elements started getting the better of her.

When we first learned of the MV Custos she was being prepared to journey her last 150nm to her final resting place, a Marine Scrap Yard in Mozambique.

Being from South African ourselves we could not help feeling an immediate connection to the MV Custos and to think she would have been scrapped in a foreign country was just unacceptable.

Despite not having much, we decided that we would like to save her from her fate. The owner agreed to sell her at a scrap metal rate. We'll be investing what we have left in returning her to a seaworthy state and sail her back to South Africa. Where we would like to bring her interior back to it's original glory and then some. Unfortunately we can not afford to do this on our own.

We need the help of 250 000 generous people who can also believe in our cause to each please donate $1 to our cause and help the MV Custos sail the worlds oceans again with pride, bring joy to those who see her and happiness to all who gets the opportunity to sail on her.

All we ask is $1. Help us by donating just $1.

We do not have much to offer but promise to create n complete blog and video journal. It will be as if you are actually there with us. In fact if you are in the area please come visit us anytime. We will be dedicating our lives to this project.

We are 2 south Africans on a journey to a more fulfilling life.

Here is a little bit about us so you can get to know us better. We would love to meet you and share stories over a sunset.

Elle: I was born in the small town of Kathu in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, with both my parents in the South African Defence Force we move around the country fairly often giving me the great opportunity to have seen most of the country I was born in. I met Quantin in 2015 and like fuel and fire our relationship grew from there. At the beginning of this we decided to pursue Quantin’s childhood dreams of blue oceans and white sandy beaches. When we packed our suite cases in May 2018 to head to Panama I would have never though I would be sitting here telling you about my self as we chase for a Dream Yacht Dream to have blue oceans and white sandy beaches. This journey has quickly grown from giving Quantin his dream to our Dream.

Quantin: I was born in South Africa and lived in Hartbeespoort till my current age of 30. Like everyone in this wonderful world I also dealt with hardships, the hardest being when I was 5 years old, I burned with oil. Over 30% of my body and face was left with 3de degree burns and scars. I was in hospital for over a year and return twice a year for the next 24 years for reconstructive surgery. This has put a very interesting perspective on life and has thought me a lot of valuable lessons the most important of all to be kind and understanding to humans and animals. I have developed a great love for dogs and my great Danes has helped me deal with everyday life. I believe I am a forward thinker and want to become an avid protector of marine life. Being closer to the ocean will allow me to spend more time and money towards local marine projects and ocean saving projects. Since I was 10 years old I have always been drawn to the oceans. Dreaming of blue waters and white beaches. Islomania is not just another word for me. Little did I know that my dreams where so close yet just out of reach. Being able to complete this super yacht project will bring me just a little bit closer to my life long dream. With your help and our hard work those dreams can become a reality. Help me for fill my dreams so I can one day offer other people the same.
