My little puppy, Sky (Bichon Frise), was diagnosed with immune mediated haemolytic anaemia (IMHA) at the age of 7 months+. My family only brought him home for barely 3 months, at the age of 5 months, who is a very hyper and active puppy during his short stay with us.

The illness hit him all of a sudden, which we are not aware of since he is an active puppy. He began not to eat or drink, and even got nausea and could not stand or walk properly. He was warded immediately but only tested positive for IMHA on the 2nd day in the clinic where urgent blood transfusion is needed to replace his low red blood cells. All thanks to the clinic doctor & nurses, they manage to help find a generous donor within an hour to save his life. FYI, we did multiple test to make sure that the cause of IMHA is not from any parasites or virus, but high possibility its inborn with it.

However, this illness has a long-term recovery phase, and might seek expensive blood transfusion of 1K each time, with possibility of weekly or monthly transfusion should the red blood cells drop below the dangerous zone. Not to mention he is on long term steriods & antibiotics medication with multiple blood test that may run in hundreds of dollars weekly. (In short, IMHA occurs when your dog’s body attacks its own red blood cells due to an autoimmune disease, this often leads to severe anaemia and poor oxygen delivery to the organs.)

According to the vet, it depends on how well the puppy will regenerate the red blood cells instead of killing it, and consistent blood checks, medication and monitoring is needed.

My family, especially my 2 kids, will never give up on Sky and hope we seek kind hearted animal lovers' help on supplementing some donations towards his costly medical bills that the amazing vet is helping to save and maintain my poor little puppy.

Dogs are human's best friends, i hope sky will grow old as a part of my family.

Thank you all in advance.

Austin
