“Help Save My Mother’s Life”

Growing up, my mama always told us that if you fall off a horse, you got to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and go back to riding it. I wonder if she knew that the horse that she's referring to would be her CANCER.

It started way back on a November on 2007. When she was taking one of her baths that she noticed a lump on her breast. It was as memory serves me, the earliest detection she had and she was vigilant about it. She opt to perform a check-up followed by laboratories to try and find out what that lump was. Turned it was a Stage 3-A Breast Cancer kind of lump. The kind of lump that brings down on you the whole world. She was as oblivious as we were on what to feel and what to do. But she had the strength to fight it and decided on an operation to remove it. As she was in the hospital, me and my brother were left to watch over the house. Christmas was coming fast, and the dread of not being sure if we will be able to spend this coming Christmas with her was not easy for an 8 and 10 year old kids like we were. We always felt scared, no matter what news came. But our mother is strong. She overcame the operation and came out successfully out of it. She was told to administer in chemotherapy and she did. Multiple relatives and friends were able to help her go through the whole ordeal financially, enabling her to survive. This is one reason she was able to live through the first ordeal, out of three.

2016. She noticed something from the gums in the upper part of her mouth. There was this wound that kept secreting puss and this made us all worry. She had it checked and of course, it was an effect of her condition. Her upper jaw, just around her cheeks was suffering from Osteonecrosis. A sickness that degenerates the bones. This was on her face, threatening to leave a hole in her face. But the operation was still, thankfully, very successful. It managed to protect her face from being deformed, because it was prevented just in the nick of leaving a fist-like hole in her face. Though a great portion of the skull has died, this left her alive. Thankfully. Thus her 2/3 ordeal.

As of today, June 5, 2020, we are trying to raise funds for our mother, Catherine G. Ferolino, who's been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer that has reached her lungs and bones. Treatment was instructed to be really immediate and consuming, it was and it continues to be a battle against time. It was late in January when a chronic pain in her hips left her unable to sleep, much less to move normally. She had it massaged thinking it was only muscle pains or the kind. The relief was short-lived as the pain kept on days later. Late February, she made the attempt to perform all her necessary laboratory tests to find out if it was connected to her previous cancer. To our dismay, it was, and it was only a matter of time that the condition left her paralyzed. Last March 2020, she had her bone surgery in order to prevent the Paralyzation to happen. 80% of her spine was already consumed by her cancer without her knowing. Her oncologist and orthopedic doctor advised us to rush her to the hospital to perform various of laboratory tests to identify which treatment should be administered to her. This new drug was administered to her instead of chemotherapy, in the hopes that it could battle this cancer more aggressively and effectively. She was even called "the walking time bomb" by her doctors, because truthfully, her life right now isn't promised.

There is no cure for this, so they say. The doctors were very straight forward with us. We need approximately P70k (Philippine money) per month for her medications. It's not likely for the cancer to fully disappear, but hopefully it will give her more time to be with us. Without the treatments, we were told she would only be living a couple months more in which we can't afford to happen. We won't allow it to happen. We are desperate for her to live.

Just like all of you, I am just a child who doesn't want to lose my mama in this battle of cancer. We love her so much. And in this we find hope to find a possible solution to our financial shortcomings.

We know we are currently suffering from this pandemic and everyone is also struggling financially, but we are knocking on your generous hearts to help my mom survive in this difficult time.
