My brother was diagnosed with TB Meningitis last January 1 and is currently staying in the Pediatric ICU in UST Hospital since December 31. He has undergone an operation due to hydrocephalus last January 4 and is currently under observation. He was also diagnosed with pneumonia and had a stroke which explains the weakness in the right side of his body. This has been our 3rd hospital since the start of his fever last December 5.
Last December 5, he went on a check-up and was advised to take antibiotics for his tonsilitis. However, he complained of shortness of breath last December 7 which is why we rushed him to MCT's ER. Even though he was admitted in Medical Center Taguig from December 8 to 15, he was still experiencing fever. Days after his discharge, he started vomitting and was always complaining of headache, which is why he was rushed again to the ER. This time, we went to MMC. He was admitted afterwards from December 19 until December 26 with the source of his fever, still unknown. Doctors speculate that it could have been an autoimmune disease, but was ruled out afterwards.
However, last December 31, 2:30 am, my brother had a seizure attack which is why we rushed him back to MMC ER. There, the doctors were looking at the possibility of systemic lupus as his illness. Due to the inavailability of the visiting pediatric rheumatologist in MMC, we were advised to transfer hospitals.
Upon arriving in UST hospital, my brother was assessed by several doctors and specialists up until the time he was admitted, and as per the advice of his doctors, a lumbar tap was done and the results showed positive for TB meningitis.
His current condition is still critical. Although an operation was done, doctors have explained to us that it was a solution to just one of the many complications of the disease. The past month has been financially exhausting for me and my family. With this, in order to sustain his undergoing treatment, we wish to tap your kind hearts and ask for financial help.
