Help Save Morija Art Centre

Morija Arts Centre is the only space of its kind in the entire country. There is nowhere else in Lesotho that offers artists the opportunity for skill-shares, workspace, sales and networking. For the community, the centre provides workshops, events, training, and rigorous encouragement of the pursuit of the arts in Lesotho

Picking up the Pieces in a "Post-Covid" (we hope) Lesotho:

Our work is more important than ever before. Covid 19 has highlighted plenty of social problems in our community. Where we saw cracks and creases in a pre-Covid Lesotho, now we see canyons. Our concern, as usual, is the youth, and it’s our aim at Morija Arts Centre to help youth and their families to pick up the pieces that two years of interrupted school, splintered families and fewer economic options has left us with.

We find ourselves at a crossroads as an organisation. The last two years have tested us and exposed some of the unsustainable elements in our structure and methods of operation. Up until now we have depended on unpaid volunteer labour, and it’s becoming clear to us that we cannot mature as an organisation by operating from a place of passion alone. We need to work on developing a solid foundation in order to ensure that we can have a continued impact in our community in the future.

What we need funding for this year:

Specifically, with your help we aim to hire three essential roles for the 2022/2023 year. These are the positions of Coordinator, Accountant and Marketing Director. We feel like these three personnel appointments will position Morija Arts Centre favourably to transition to a new period of prosperity and increased impact.

Without these paid positions, we cannot continue to provide essential services to the community of Morija and Lesotho as a country. These team-members will help us apply for future grants, arrange our accounts responsibly (to build our reputation of respectability in order to receive bigger and better grants and funding partners in future) and amplify our message/events/projects in order to pull in greater support and participation from our communities.

With fewer restrictions than ever before, it looks like we can finally begin picking up the pieces. Here at Morija Arts Centre we have a lot of ideas of how we can help alleviate the suffering from the past two years and pave a road of hope for the future. But we need your help to turn these ideas into positive action.
