Campaign Story
Hello, my name is Justin (Justin Gargantiel). I've created this page on behalf of my brother - Joseph (Sef Gargantiel) and his partner - Kristine (Kristine De Leon McCremens), Kylie's parents.
My niece Kylie was born last August 9, of this year. A few months after her birth, she was diagnosed with this rare disease called Biliary Atresia. Doctors stated it is very rare that it occurs in 1 out of 20,000 births. Up until now, doctors haven't been able to identify the cause of this disease. All we know is that BA (Biliary Atresia) is an irreversible problem. There are no medications that can be given to unblock the bile ducts or to encourage new bile ducts to grow where there were none before. Until that happens, biliary atresia will not be curable.
After numerous tests and careful assessment done by several doctors in the previous weeks, last Saturday -December 1, 2018, Kylie was supposed to undergo a surgical operation called "Kasai portoenterostomy" (This operation connects the bile drainage from the liver directly to the intestinal tract). But when they cut her open, the surgeons found her liver has greatly deteriorated and is unsavable due to cirrhosis. They decided not to continue with the procedure anymore, as it can no longer save her life.
Doctors recommended an immediate liver transplant for her to live. We were told that liver transplant for infants here in the Philippines may cost up to 5 million pesos but outside our country like in India, it costs around 2 million pesos ($40,000). Because of this, our family is hoping to bring Kylie to India as soon as possible.
Time is very crucial for Kylie right now. As days pass by her liver becomes more damaged and without the immediate transplant, she may soon die.
Our family despite being small and not having the means to immediately provide the amount needed to save Kylie, is trying to be strong and is doing everything we can to gather the amount needed. Everyone in our family including relatives have already reached out and offered help. We greatly appreciate all the support they provided, however, the amount we have gathered is still not enough to send Kylie for a liver transplant in India.
Through this page, we humbly ask for any financial assistance your kind hearts can provide in order for our family to save my niece. She’s very young and we love her so much. Through a fund raiser, our dreams of still seeing her run and play in the sun with her sisters, cousins and friends; growing up to finish her studies and be successful in life; watch her walk down the isle with her father by her side can become a reality.
Any amount will truly go a long way. I will continue to post updates on this page as soon as we have them.
Thank you and may the good Lord bless you and your families.
