Kevin (46) suffered a major heart attack on the 10th September 2019 and had a stent put in. He was absent for work for about 5 weeks. At our 6-week follow-up the cardiologist informed us that Kevin will never be healthy again. He was classified as a heart failure patient. He has an enlarged heart, 2 valves not working property... one had stretch due to his enlarged heart. Some of the blood is falling back into the chamber due to the low function of the heart. His heart is only pumping at 30% ejection refraction. He is also building up fluid due to low pumping. Diabetic and hypertension.
He was admitted to Union cardiac ICU, on the 24th December after he fainted at home. Upon doing tests the doctors diagnosed rental failure. He was put on daily dialysis which did wonders for him.
His heartrate was dangerously high, and the Dr. decided to shock his heart back into rhythm. Just before reaching theater they had to resuscitate him, put him on a ventilator, 24hrs dialysis and sedation.
After a few days on sedation, he was taken off. Dr's was very concerned as he did not respond to the pain tests done. Sensors was put on his brain to test for brain function... which we can now see is normal.....thank God
He is still in cardiac ICU and with the cost of approx. 150k per week, I am desperate for help. On the 7/1/2020, he was taken for an x-ray as he was choking each time he drinks as little as a teaspoon full. They have inseeted the feeding tube again as he obviously cant drink or eat. He has a tear in his throat which needs to be fixed surgically.
Our hospital plan is not paying out as we "claimed" twice in 6 months... they paid R 68 000.00 for heart attack... which they classified as a illness in hospital.
Last week i was told to pay R 100 000.00 just to keep him in private care. He would need a heart transplant, I am desperatley in need of financial help... I cant take my husband to a state facility!!! He is responding well to the treatment which he will not receive if moved.
Any help would be a step closer to save him xxx
Thank you to everyone sharing his story..please dont stop???
