Help Save Herbii

Update posted by HelpSaveHerbii On Jul 03, 2015

Thank you so much to everyone that has supported our campaign to have Herbii's destruction order revoked. This news has been long awaited and I am pleased to let everyone know that on Friday 19th June 2015, the Leicester Crown Court withdrew Herbii's Destruction Order in favour of a Contingent Destruction Order. This ultimately means that the Court have allowed me to keep Herbii subject to him being walked on a lead and muzzled whilst out in public. This has been an immense relief to me as well as to friends & family who know that Herbii is a lovely dog that did not to deserve to die as a result of an incident that has been life changing for all concerned.
My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone that took the time to sign and share the petition and have held us in their thoughts and prayers whilst awaiting our Appeal hearing.
Everyone's support has been overwhelming & it has kept me positive & hopeful for the right outcome. Whilst the initial hearing left me bewildered by the Justice System, I am pleased to say that my faith in the Justice System was restored by our Appeal Hearing outcome. Both the prosecutor and my Barrister, Jo Morris, were fantastic and so huge thanks must go to them for their involvement in securing the best result for Herbii, & to the Judge for his decision to withdraw the original order & replace it with a Contingent Destruction Order.
A thank you must go to Steven Havers of Havers Dog Behaviour, for taking the time to conduct an initial assessment of Herbii and allow us access to his training classes.
Nick Jones of Alpha Dog Behaviour must also receive a huge thank you for taking the time to travel miles from home to do an additional assessment of Herbii, and attend court, to add greater strength to our case.
These professionals ultimately combined helped secure the best outcome in court whilst the support of friends and family and our supporters helped keep me positive. So a huge thanks to each and everyone of you from Herbii & I. I could not have achieved justice for Herbii without you all behind us, each step of the way.
I am immensely grateful to everyone who donated, for their generosity and support.
The funds raised helped to pay for Herbii's DNA test, a new muzzle, new fencing in the back garden to ensure it was secure (this added an additional positive aspect to Herbii's assessment) & additional training classes. I will slowly begin to rebuild myself financially as the stress of this really affected my ability to focus on work related topics. In the coming months I would like to refund everyone's contributions, but please bare with me as this may take some time.

Thank you so much to everyone who has kindly donated.
Herbii was assessed by a pet behaviourist on Thursday and so I have decided to disable the ability to donate further to Herbii's cause.
We hope that the court will reconsider the destruction order issued once they have had an opportunity to look at all of the evidence put forward to support the belief that Herbii does not pose a danger to the public. A valuable part of this evidence is the pet behaviourist's report.

Our Appeal Hearing will be held at the Crown Court in a couple of week's time. Please follow our Facebook page to keep up to date on progress & thank you again for supporting us.

Thank you so much to everyone that has been kind enough to donate to our fundraiser and to the ladies who have bought handmade gifts through my Calamity Crafts Facebook page. Every little bit, no matter how small, will help us immensely and I cannot thank people enough for sharing our petition and fundraising pages.

On Friday morning I decided to ring Legal Aid to check the status of my application. They confirm I have been issued with a Representation Order. The solicitor has claimed that he has not yet received the Certificate and I have yet to receive a copy of the Order to be issued by the Court. I have been led to believe that the Order will detail the conditions upon which our financial costs will be met.

My current solicitor is of the belief that Legal Aid may object to the Pet Behaviourist that I have chosen because of the costs which will be incurred. I have been asked to look at other behaviourists - presumably cheaper ones - possibly meaning less experienced, less well qualified and less well known in their field. I am determined to do whatever I possibly can to fund the best people for the job. Your donations will contribute immensely to our goal to save Herbii.

As Legal Aid will cover the Barrister, I will continue to fundraise for the Pet Behaviourist Assessment and the costs associated with his attendance at court as an Expert Witness. Please help me continue to do the best for my boy by continuing to share our fundraiser. I will be eternally grateful to each and every one of you. Thank you again, so much, for helping us.
