My little girl, Halle, a rescue from the Broward Humane Society, first came into our lives 4 years ago. She was a young 5 (aprox) year old when she was removed from her previous owner who had kept her in deplorable conditions and obvious neglect. She was thankfully removed and placed at the shelter where I was most fortunate to find her. She was, even then, a sweet and precious girl. Despite the inhumane treatment she experienced at the hands of her former human, she never once showed me any fear or aggression. She trusted me from the get go and only showed great appreciation for "saving" her. If anyone has ever rescued a dog, you know what I mean. From the moment I met Halle, she showed a sweet temperament and a will to live. I knew from that first moment she was to be my little girl.
Why I need your help?
Fast forward four years. Halle has captured our hearts and become a dear member of our family. She shares our home with our other dog, Mac and remains a sweet girl. Three weeks ago, a lump that was initially thought to be a benign fatty tumor was removed and biopsied. Unfortunately, when the results came back it turned out to be malignant, grade 2 sarcoma. As you can imagine the news was devastating and especially more so when we were told that it wasn't completely removed. "The lines were dirty", her vet said. "She going to need to see an oncologist and have radiation therapy to completely kill the cancer." I cried all the way home fearing the worse. At the oncologist appointment, I got the best news ever. I was told her cancer is treatable and more importantly curable with at least an 80% chance. As quickly as my heart elated from the news, it was deflated with the daunting price tag for the treatment to save her life. You see, the total cost for the radiation therapy including tests and CT scan is $6680. Her pet insurance only covers $2500. My heart dropped and all I could think of was this can't be happening. How am I going to pay for this? Can I really affort this? The answer of course being "no". But how can I do nothing and allow her to die prematurely without a fight?
If you are a dog lover/owner, then you know the bond that is formed with a pet. I can't just give up on her. I have to at least try and save her and that is why I'm doing this fundraiser. I've never been one to give up, and least of all on someone I love. Please help me save my little girl. Anything you can do will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Took Halle for a second opinion last week and was given the same prognosis and course of treatment. The radiation therapy appears to be the best treatment for her if she is to have a chance of survival. She also had chest x-rays which thankfully showed her lungs are clear so the cancer has not spread as of yet. Timing is everything so we're shooting for the beginning of September to get her started with treatment. Clinic requires 75% deposit to start so we're hoping to gather the funds in time.
