Help Save Baby Jack Damien

Update posted by Angela Sta Cruz On Mar 13, 2018

Hello everyone. I don't know how to start this post to be honest.

This morning I received an email from Gogetfunding telling me that a certain Hye Sung Kang ([email protected]) messaged me through them and said "pssst...diba patay na pasyente mo?" (Pssst...isn't your patient dead?)*. I don't know who this person is. He/she is probably a friend or friend of a friend on Facebook which is where I first posted the news that baby Jack Damien finally succumbed to infection and complications due to his prematurity and joined his Creator on March 8 2018 at 1508.

*This message was a bit insensitive and made me feel a bit angry because there wasn't even a hint of sympathy or condolence so whoever you are yes you are right and if you can't help us just get lost please.

It was very heartbreaking. Jack's cause of death was septicemia. He also had pneumonia, NEC, retinopathy of prematurity, and possible congenital heart disease.

Had he survived after resucitation, his quality of life would definitely be compromised. His passing took us by surprise because he seemed to be doing fine until the other complications started rearing their ugly heads out.

He fought well. With everyone's support and everyone fighting with him.

Jack was cremated on Monday March 12 7AM at St Peter's and his remains were brought home for the mean time.

There will be a vigil and post crematory service for him over the coming weekend. For details please see my Facebook post/s which are only viewable if you are my friend. This is also for security and privacy of the bereaved.

Thank you for everyone who has helped us by donating here and also offline. We still have about 300k to settle with Marikina Valley and 150k to settle with NCH.

So donations are still open even after Jack's passing.

We will update the campaign description soon if the site allows us to.

Please pray for our beloved angel.

Jack Damien

Paypal has now been reinstated and we hope to raise additional funds about 200K to cover the balance at MVMC and the new bill here at NCH.

March 4 Sunday a photoshoot for a cause was held and we were overwhelmed by the amount of people who showed up. It was a success.

Forever thankful for family and friends who have supported us and are praying for Jack.

March 1

Jack's weight is at 1.17

Resumed feeding at 2cc every 4 hours starting today. Abdomen not distended. Bowel movement is ok sending to lab for fecalysis.

Latest ABG result from Sunday is ok as well as blood sugar levels. Negative bacteria in urinalysis.

Tropicamide + phenylephrine eyedrops for dilation on follow up next week for immature retina.

Will post prior updates soon.

On Sunday they did a cut down on the vein on his neck to make the meds more effective as his blood sugar levels were continously dropping. Now he is a bit ok.

Still active and fighting. Paypal is still limited though so we are unable to withdraw funds.

Update Feb 22 2018

Jack was placed on 8.5cc every 4 hours but they stopped due to residuals on ogt and distended but soft abdomen. He is also not able to poop without assistance.

We are currently on KMC or Kangaroo mother care to enable him to conserve his body heat and energy for him to grow. He is on day 6/21 of his antibiotics treatment for the bacteria that grew on his blood culture test. His current weight is at 1.045.

Update Feb 21 2018

They increased feeding on Jack and they also removed his oxygen letting him breathe on his own..he still has blood infection and is still on antibiotics. But his chest xray results have cleared so far.

His current weight is at 1.15 after being erratic for the past few days.

I also have problems with Paypal. They have limited my account and are wanting me to provide documents for a business eventhough I have requested my account to be downgraded from business to personal. I have emailed them already to try and resolve the issue and hopefully they do.

Update Feb 17 2018

Jack's blood sugar is running low because of blood infection and he is still on antibiotics.

If his blood sugar is still low they may have to cut down his neck to insert a tube to help increase blood sugar levels instead of the usual dextrose that runs through his hands and/or feet. Please pray that they won't have to resort to this procedure.

His weight dropped so they have tried to increase feeding currently to 5cc every 4 hours.

Our Paypal account is on limited access because it is on a business and not personal account. We need the funds in order to pay off the debt from the previous hospital. We are still working with Paypal re: the issue.

Update Feb 16 2018

Jackjack still has blood infection. Bacteria is sensitive to antibiotics so they are switching again.

His weight dropped to 1.01.

His weight upon admission was 1.09. He is continuously being fed breastmilk 2cc every 4 hours.

His stomach is a bit distended but soft and he is pooping normally but they have to poke him to assist in pooping.

They asked another doctor's opinion re: his stomach but this is because Jack can't tolerate feeding. Every time they increase feeding he expels gastric residues so they are doing it slowly.
