Help Save A Life: Fundraising For Our Father’s Colostomy Operation

Peter, our father, has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. A tumor -- now 12 cm in diameter -- is growing in his colon and is blocking wastes passing through his intestines. After recent tests, he has been advised to undergo surgery so he can have a colostomy bag, which is expected to give him comfort with his bowel and to avoid complications in his intestine. This is the only option for him right now. The hospital where he was recently confined in tried to use feeding tube to do away with the operation, but this is not working for him. So, an operation is his only option.

Right now, he is on soft diet and cannot eat any solid food to avoid complications. Having a successful operation will help him eat decent meals. The surgery would cost around ₽300,000-₽400,000 (~US$6,000-US$7,000), according to his doctor at Las Pinas Doctors Hospital. We also conducted crowdsourcing in cancer-focused Facebook groups and got the same estimate:

While my father has a health card, we’ve already drained his available balance from his previous hospitalizations this year (February 2020 and April 2020, where we were charged about ₽120,000 per hospitalization). We could have brought him to a government hospital already to lessen the costs of the operation but the pandemic is limiting our options at the moment. Most Philippine government hospitals only cater to COVID patients and we would have to opt for private hospitals to have him operated. We are currently waiting for the hospital to have an available room (he is 17th on the queue at the moment) and will bring him as soon as a hospital room would be available.
