Growing up, I always believed that everyone has the right to education and healthcare services. However, when I become older, I realized that this is not the case particularly in Africa; only the privileged received such services easily while the rest fight hard to get them. I was one of those who had to fight relentlessly to pursue education and get healthcare services. At a young age, I started volunteering in different orphanages to help teach children from all lifestyles. In addition, I would volunteer at public clinics quite often whenever possible. Amazingly, I observed that every patient who came in was given Paracetamol as the curative drug regardless of their diagnosis due to a lack of medical drugs in the clinics.

I am 26 years old and passionate about education, health care and entrepreneurship. Africa needs to improve its education systems across to be able to produce job creators (entrepreneurs) who would willingly roll up their sleeves and work towards creating a better future for all. Further, Africa needs to reimagine the health sector to the point where access is non-negotiable; and I hope continually to be part of this wave.

My passion, interest, and aptitude for entrepreneurship have all played a role in enabling me to start up TONSE Pharmaceuticals. TONSE Pharmaceutical is a small entity whose aim is to provide medical drugs and health education to the rural Zambian populace who do not have access to relevant and prescriptive drugs and medical care nor health and medical information that they can relate to and understand.

TONSE Pharmaceutical was founded after seeing so many Zambians in the rural areas having little or no access to proper medical drugs and healthcare information. The distance to get to the closest pharmacy is an awful and inconvenient stretch. Our core value, therefore, is health first. Access to healthcare, medical drugs and information for the rural populace thus forms our mission. With this, we decided to collaborate with already existing pharmaceuticals to supply us with medicines and standardized guidelines on prices. This move allowed us to lower our prices to make it affordable for the customers and enable us to meet the costs of running the business. The products that we offer thus are prescriptive medical drugs to the rural inhabitants. In addition, approximately 7 out of 10 all customers we have served do not understand English. As such, we provide necessary translations, information about healthcare and the education around this, to empower them. Our service is thus, healthcare via information and education.

TONSE Pharmaceutical provides prescriptive medical drugs to solve the challenge of misprescription of drugs to users who would not otherwise understand and give relevant and understandable information about healthcare. Through these, we thus address the bigger challenge facing rural areas in Africa, the lack of healthcare and health information.

The number of Zambians living in the rural areas as at 2017 is 7.698 million. This represents the number of people who find it hard to easily access healthcare information and medical services. At present, we are addressing Linda, Zambia, which has about 30,000 people as our total addressable market.

Our vision and mission are to provide medicines to everyone in rural areas of Zambia at low prices. With this, it will help thousands of Zambians maintain a healthy lifestyle, improving their productivity and drive. A healthy population means a healthy economy. Further, because our service encompasses providing talks to the community, we will eventually play a role in the social empowerment of the rural populace in Zambia. For instance, in the month of December 2017, we played a role in educating the people about the preventive measures on the Cholera outbreak. From inception, the business has managed to offer employment to three individuals. Two on a full-time basis and one on part-time. With our expansion plan, we hope to employ at least 4 people per pharmacy. Moreover, with our plan of having chains of pharmacies, we will further play a role in job creation in Zambia.

Please help us serve more people by donating. Thank you very much and God bless..
