My name is Arne Hobbs. I am 14 years old and a conservationist. My focus is reptiles and I have been working with snakes since I was 9 years old. At that stage I was the youngest registered snake catcher in the world. This is not for me but for a friend of mine, Robert.
I met uncle Robert when he contacted me about a documentary, "Snake Heroes" he was filming. Video productions is his livelihood and his passion. Like me, uncle Robert is an ardent camp fighter for nature and animals and it was in this setting that disaster struck him! My heart is with him and I wish to play a part for his recovery. See his story below:
"Over the weekend of 30 June 2019 our house was broken into while we went to the local recycling center to recycle ♻. When we arrived back around 45 minutes later, I noticed a curtain in my lounge moving and I immediately saw that they had taken out the entire window frame and must have just left as Sandy and I arrived home. I quickly called two armed response security companies and the police. We raced around the neighborhood trying to find any signs of the robbers. After that I spent many hours going through the Bush close to my house to try and recover my film gear but unfortunately we found nothing. Almost all my camera gear and two computers, an iPad, two pairs of running shoes, a running cap and even my birthday chocolate was taken. The replacement cost of all the gear amounts to +\- R120,000 ($8600). This gear is essential for me to do my job. Sandy and I worked for 3 years to be able to buy this gear.
I feel very awkward asking for help but in this case I am financially not in the position to pay for the costs caused by this break in and my gear was not insured. If you are able to donate something to help me buy the camera gear that was stolen from me then I would be eternally grateful! Any donation no matter how small will be much appreciated. I refuse to become a victim of crime in this beautiful country!"
Final word from Me (Arne):
Uncle Robert is helping to tell stories about my friends, the reptiles. He helps to educate the community about the importance of nature and without this my reptile friends are doomed. If reptiles are doomed, we are all doomed. So, see your contribution as a direct contribution to nature conservation.
Be yourself and be safe!
