On Saturday 18th October I saw this message that Adell Cookson posted on the Wythenshawe page on Facebook:

For those that choose to focus on all the bad points of Wythenshawe and not the good, my lad has played football all over Wythenshawe and never encountered a problem. He's just got back from playing a match in Stockport and has had his bag, his trainers, and phone stolen…

Birthday presents

The value of items stolen is around £170 and the trainers and bag were new, as he had just had his 16th birthday. I saw the post and said I wanted to help, and many others on the thread said they wanted to help as well, which is why I’ve set up this page. Adell is currently on sickness benefit due to ill health, and is being looked after by her fiancé. But he is unemployed and actively looking for work. She also has a two-year-old to look after.

Adell said, “my boy was gutted to have lost his birthday trainers and bag, and there’s no way I can afford to replace them. With Christmas coming up, I needed this like a hole in the head.”

Adell didn’t ask me to set up this page – I OFFERED because I believe that people in Wythenshawe will be pleased to help. I don’t want a medal, I just want Adell and her son to have their stuff replaced. Please chip in if you can afford it. No sum is too large or too small. If we can raise £170 then that will be fantastic! Please don't let thieves spoil this lad's 16th birthday (and Christmas). Thanks for reading.

Best wishes, Nigel Woodcock (friend of Adell)
