In brief: We are asking anyone who sails in Malta to consider supporting this campaign as a way to say 'thank you' to the volunteers who give up their weekends to put on racing for the rest of us. They deserve a decent Committee Boat where they can make a cup of coffee and get out of the elements whilst we all enjoy charging around the race track. Let's get Sarbri back out on the water

The Full Story:

There are a lot of sailors in Malta, and a lot of great racing and regattas which can be run here. Unfortunately none of the sailing clubs or teams own a good Race Committee Boat, and their volunteers bravely spend long days in open ribs trying to run start sequences without proper equipment or facilities. That changed this spring when RLR Yachting took on the maintenance and management of the yacht “Sarbri” in exchange for its use as a Race Committee boat:

Sarbri is a 37ft Banjer yacht built in Holland in 1973 and has called Malta her home for over 30 years. She has a fully set up galley and heads inside, plenty of room on deck for flags and line layers and is generally the perfect Race Committee Boat. RLR Yachting spent the winter of 2020/21 getting her fully serviced and cleaned and ready for the new season. Her maiden regatta was the SB20 and J92 regatta run by the SB20 Association in late February. Then, disaster struck. At the end of the first event an engine problem appeared. Something deep in Sarbri's 50 year old engine went pop. The good news is; it can be fixed.

The 300kg engine has already been stripped down and removed by volunteers and a professional review by her mechanic is that it can be fixed and Sarbri can be back out on the water within a month if we can raise the £3,500 funds required for the repair. Any extra funds raised will be used to fit Sarbri out with items for the Race Committee volunteers.

We are asking everyone who sails in Malta to consider supporting this campaign to say 'thank you' to the volunteers who give up their weekends to put on racing for the rest of us. They deserve a decent Committee Boat where they can make a cup of coffee and get out of the elements whilst we all enjoy charging around the race track. Let’s get Sarbri back out on the water!

Please donate today and share this campaign with anyone who sails or is a member of a sailing club.
