My name is Raymond, and I am 17 going on 18. I live in Pretoria, South Africa.
Ever since I can remember, I've had the ultimate dream of becoming a pilot. I know this is not just a little boy dream. Stepping into pilot shoes for me is a calling. One which I will pursue with excellence. I remember watching every program associated with aircraft on the History- and Discovery Channels as a young boy. Programs such as Dog Fights, Air Crash Investigations were among my favorites excluding all the research and educating myself on various things, which in hind sight can be directly connected to aviation.
I had the privilege to be home educated by my mom. Boy! She was strict, and today I thank her for pushing me to persevere through difficult situations. I did my GED online without the assistance of tutors. Self guided education has given me the tenacity to look for solutions in various ways. Looking back, it was the best thing mom did for me.
A mother is a rather special life force, who not only looks at the needs of her family but also of others. My mom has done some pretty crazy stuff in the past to help people in need and walking with her in public was not always easy, but I get her. (See photos below)
She cycled 1200km for a Charity to create awareness for a Children's Home cycle club who is based in Pretoria, South Africa. They managed to raise +- $5000 on the trip. Her next mission was a bit crazier. Going on FB she challenged her friends to donate blankets/money should she get it right to walk in an Adult Baby Grow (Onesie) for 90 days when ever she appears in public. This year she shaved her beautiful long hair for all cancer patients and donated her hair towards a wig. She is always looking for ways helping others in need.
My dream to become a pilot is costly and I know my parents currently do not have the funds to support this dream. There are many more young men like me out there. My mom has decided to run this campaign for me as she wants to start a foundation for aspiring young pilots and help them make their calling a reality. My first goal is to get my PPL (Private Pilot License) for that I need to raise at least R150,000 by mid January 2019 to commence with my training - this does not include extra costs of traveling etc. There after it is onto my CPL and Instructors grading, which will form a new campaign.
Please support me in my quest towards my CPL
(Commercial Pilot License with and Instructors grading).
