Alice is a vibrant and cheerful person. In 2009 she was diagnosed with Neuromyelitis Optica, an autoimmune disease, which caused her to lose her sight and motor function effectively causing her to become a quadriplegic. This prevented her from performing basic daily tasks or even to scratch an itch. Despite her doctors expecting her to only live a few weeks, being resilient, Tracy has been working hard on improving her motor function and has gone from being bedridden to being able to brush her teeth, feed herself and has graduated from a wheelchair to using a walker. She is now able to go short distances with the aid of her walker. She continues to improve but this is not an illness that will go away. The side effects of the primary medication is debilitating with long term use. the proposed medication to be used instead is very expensive and the care services and medical bills are taking a toll especially since her medical insurance no longer covers medical costs. We are saving towards the next infusion and require assistance. We are grateful for any contribution no matter how small as every little makes a big difference.
