Campaign Story
On August 4, 2020, Beirut, Lebanon, was rocked by a series of huge explosions. A shock wave raced from the site of the blasts, on Beirut’s industrial waterfront, into the heart of the city’s residential neighborhoods, damaging homes and hospitals and shattering windows for miles. Thousands of people have been injured, and hundreds have been reported killed. The governor of Beirut has estimated the cost of the damage to be more than US$10bn.
This tragedy hits people already suffering in the face of an economic crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Kahawatu Foundation and Sucafina now come together to lend their support. We invite our community to help us provide relief to those afflicted by this crisis.
Between now and Monday, September 7, 2020, Sucafina will match every dollar donated to reach the target of US$50K. Funds go towards food, building materials for those whose homes have been destroyed, and medical equipment for those who need it most.
We stand with the Lebanese people during this time of need. The smallest donation can make a difference. Now more than ever, they need our support.
The artwork seen above was created by Richard, an urban artist born in São Paulo, in collaboration with the Sucafina Brasil team to help Lebanon in this time of crisis. Please make sure to mention your name when donating (you can still hide the amount) as the painting will go to one of you – picked randomly at the end of the campaign.
