Hello, this is a fundraising campaign to keep Dave Hum's musical copyright in the immediate family for Mel, Perri and River Hum.

As many of you may already know, the Hum family have had more than their fair share of struggles; Dave, Mel and Perri suffered terribly after losing their first child and sister Ashlea, to Cystic Fibrosis. Then after losing Dave, it has taken a monumental toll on Mel and the children, with on-going grief and mental health issues, which are still largely affecting their lives today.

Mel had been a full-time carer for their daughter Ashlea and then later, Dave. So it was left to Dave to bring in a humble and modest income, through doing what he loved and what he's known for, busking. You can read more about Dave's life on his website: www.davehum.com

Unfortunately when Dave passed, he didn't leave a Will, as a result Mel is unexpectedly having to pay for legal fees to secure the Copyright to his music. We all assumed the copyright would automatically be passed down to Dave's children, but apparently this is not the case without paying for a probate, which has only recently been brought to our attention. This is a matter of urgency because of the copyright's upcoming expiration.

We have set up this page so that your kind contribution can go towards legal costs to secure Dave's legacy, the costs of recently having to create a new website (the original was made by Dave using Flash which is now obsolete), and its on-going maintenance fees.

Thank you for your compassion and support, it will be greatly received by the family.

  • Such a sad loss to Dave's family, and the world, that Dave is no longer here in body. He was a great musician and I for one am grateful for the videos and stuff I can find of Dave online. I unfortunately never heard Dave play in person, in fact I only came across Dave and his music about 3 years ago. I only ever listened to heavy techno and heavy dance music until I discovered Mr Dave Hum online, I'm so glad I found him, he has opened my mind and converted me to different types of music and its changed me as a person, for the better. His music and talent is just so magical and really draws you in, so thanks Dave. Of all the different musicians you led me to, you are still my number 1, there isn't a single day passed since I discovered you that I haven't listened to your music. First day I discovered Dave I started making plans to travel from Lancashire where I live, to Bath, just on the off chance of seeing Dave busking, then 2 days later I found out that Dave was sadly already dead and I cried everyday for months after. I can tell just by looking at him he was a good person and only good people will be resurrected after Armageddon. Look forward to meeting you in person in the new system Dave. I'm glad to be able to make a donation to your family and this cause, even though its probably too late. I will also be purchasing some of your albums from your website xxx

  • Watched Dave many times with first Street Level (I come from Poole originally) and later in Bath with The Huckleberries with my late son, Will. I've read your story and cried with you - loss never gets any easier and you've suffered more than me. Will was a promising musician and I don't want his legacy to die and for him to be forgotten, so I understand - totally. I hope this helps. All the best

  • Dave was a genius musician. His videos/music continue to inspire many including myself in playing the banjo. It's only right for his family that his legacy should be protected. I'm donating to this worthy cause to say thanks Dave for all the music and best wishes to his family.

  • Dave's music and warm personality was always welcome on Banjo Hangout. He felt like a brother to many of us and he was missed when he passed away. I'd like to support Mel and her family and wish them the best in their efforts.
