Sponsor Prof. Mary Allegra to Attend TESOL Convention 2018

The inflation rate is above 800 % through October. Next year, consumer prices are forecast by the International Monetary Fund to soar more than 2,300 %. See article at: In a Venezuela Ravaged by Inflation, ‘a Race for Survival’ Therefore, we are resilient in order to find ways to improve our professional development. It is impossible for any Venezuelan to have access to any foreign currency. Apart from this, the wage for a university professor in Venezuela is almost equivalent to the minimum wage in Venezuela, which is around $4.10 per month.

Besides, public universities like mine do not have budget to finance this kind of academic professional event. See article: Venezuela's Universities Feel the Sting of Economic and Political Crisis.

For all these reasons, it is inviable for me or any other Venezuelan to pay the expenses for this trip to Chicago and represent my country, Venezuela, in such a prestigious academic event. I submitted a proposal for presenting in the most prestigious international association of English teachers in the world called TESOL.

My proposal has been chosen and I have been invited to participate in the 52nd International TESOL International Convention which will take place in Chigaco, Illlinois, starting March 27 to 30th, 2018 (http://www.tesol.org/convention-2018 ) to contribute with a presentation about optimizing formative assessment in English language teaching through a technological tool called “Plickers”. Besides, I also have two other presentations that I share with other Venezuelan collegues.

TRIP COST

Air ticket Caracas-Chicago-Caracas approx. $1200 (the price is fluctuating)

I would need at least to collect $1200 for the flying ticket by February 15th, 2018. I know I can make it with the help of all of you!

I would really appreciate all your contributions to help me attend TESOL International Convention 2018, share my knowledge and represent my country in such an important conference of English teachers in the world.
